Do you ever wonder what people think of you when they first meet you? And if you had it to do all over again, what you might say or do differently? We asked the ladies of Sunday Brunch what they thought of each other when they first met, without letting them know what the others had said, and got some scoop that may surprise you! Sometimes, in real friendships, you do get a second chance to make a first impression.
Ashley: I met Cameron and Ryan at “The Pistol” where Ryan bartends and Cameron sings…I had moved to LA from Nashville a few months before and was desperately looking for good girlfriends like I had back home. I first saw Ryan, she was dating Layne then, and everyone was packed around her bar and she was running the show like a ringmaster. She made everyone laugh, knew everyone’s orders and looked like the girl in school that was hard to get to know, but you had to get to know her. Then Cameron walked into the bar, in something with sequins, quelle surprise! [laughs], and the room just lit up…literally. She was a bit crass in a lady-like way, oozing of sexuality, but truly a force. I had to know them both and thought, “what better way to make friends than over Sunday brunch?”
Ryan: Sheesh, I feel like it was ages ago when I first met those girls…I was such a different person living such a different life. I met Cameron first when she just started with the guys and didn’t quite understand how someone with such, um, sparkle, would fit into the band. She was loud, she constantly talked about sex, and she thought of herself a bit too highly…but she also made me laugh, held her own, and didn’t annoy me like the other girls at the bar…so I knew we’d get along just fine. When I first met Ashley, she was fresh off the boat from Tennessee and her hair was perfect, her clothes were perfect, her marriage was perfect…it was all way too fucking perfect. She was sweet, a bit too “sticky,” and tried too hard, but I could see there was a messy girl in there somewhere. I gave her a few shots of tequila and sure enough, her inner rocker came out. I knew then I liked this Miss Priss and would do all I could to get her Messy Bitch to shine.
Cameron: The day I met Ryan at the bar, I had just started singing with “The Bold Heart” and she and Layne were together and she calmed down his rock star ego; which was good for me. I needed to have a girl on my side in this group of men and she was not your usual one, like me, so I knew we’d hit it off. Plus, she needed me to add a little flair to her all-black wardrobe. The day I met Ashley, I remember it was raining outside and my hair looked like a wreck. I had just gotten it blown out for a big date after the show and then I end up looking like a crazy poodle. I was in the bathroom trying to calm down my circus fro and Ashley comes in with a big bag and smile. She had magical Southern powers and, oddly, a curling iron, hair spray, and a brush. When I walked out the door 20 minutes later, I looked better than I had at the salon. She was like my very own Mary Poppins of style!
